7 Single Leg Exercises You’re Probably Not Doing

I’m continuing with this series of “… things you’ve probably never done” because A) there’s a ton of good stuff out there that newbies don’t know and B) there’s a ton of good stuff out there that veteran lifters forget about. We often get stuck using the same exercises, the same rep scheme, and the same conditioning work because it works. And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

The last two times we talked about a few set and rep schemes that you’ve probably never tried and also six lat exercises that you’ve probably never done. And today, I bring you 7 single leg exercises that you’ve either never done or totally forgot about. (And while some might argue that certain lunges are actually “double leg”, I’m putting them in this category for the sake of it being unilateral.)

1. Courtsy (Drop) Lunge

2. Single Leg Band Leg Curl

3. Speed Skater Hops

4. Eccentric Step-down

5. TRX Single Leg Lunge/Knee Drive

6. Single Leg Hip Thrust

7. Single Leg Back Raise

great ideas for me to try…my left leg is always very weak and have trouble doing lunges on that side, but my lower back on my left side is stronger than right. these will give me other things to try!

Great list. I did some eccentric step downs the other day after not doing them for years. Very humbling experience.

I recently added curtsies to my workout – the first time I saw them done I thought that looks too easy, ouch my bum was feeling it the next day!

  6. Wow… these are amazing! Thanks for sharing

  7. Looking to include more single leg stuff into my routines, thanks.
