No matter what you think, I am just like you.
I would rather eat chocolate than chicken
There are days I don’t want to go to the gym
There are days I am pressed for time to squeeze in my training session
There are exercises I hate to do
There are exercises that I am not good at compared to my others
I don’t have all the answers
I wish I were leaner or stronger
I will beat myself up for eating bad
I have eaten ice cream in place of dinner
There are days I would rather go out to eat than cook
There are days when I get home and my kids are already in bed
I wish I had more free time
Compare myself to other women who I think “have it all”
I don’t workout all day
I don’t live off of broccoli, chicken and rice
I want faster results
I whine about my results/workouts/being sore
There are days I want to sleep in more
It is not easy!!
But where I am different is that even though I want many things in the list above, I want to reach my goals more.
I am willing to:
Get up early and sacrifice sleep (on some days)
Not eat ice cream for dinner
Take food with me everywhere when dieting
I do the exercises I suck at and try to improve
Go to bed early and sacrifice TV or entertainment
Cook large amounts of food to save time
Give up TV to spend time with my kids
Work my ass off for what I want
Get totally out of my comfort zone to improve
Hire a coach to help me with the hard stuff
Surround myself with people smarter than me and have an open mind
It’s about choices. It’s about your priority for whatever you are reaching for. If you want to be a millionaire, then don’t blow your paycheck all in one weekend. If you want to be leaner, then give up your nightly ice cream. If you want to do a powerlifting meet, you’ll find a way to get all your training sessions in. Commit to the process. Commit to your plan (you have a plan, right?). Whichever path you choose, choose it 100%.
Miyagi: Now, ready?
Daniel: Yeah, I guess so.
Miyagi: [sighs] Daniel-san, must talk. Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later
[makes squish gesture]
Miygai: Get squish just like grape. Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do “yes” or karate do “no.” You karate do “guess so,”
[makes squish gesture]
Miyagi: just like grape. Understand?
Daniel: Yeah, I understand.
Miyagi: Now, ready?
Daniel: Yeah, I’m ready.
