Week 5/52: Leg Extension alternative

MOTIVATION

TRAINING

Week 5 and we’re back with one of my new favorite exercises. Many fitness professionals and coaches have mixed feelings about leg extensions. Strength coaches will avoid them with athletes due to the  tension it places on the patellar tendon, a spot that most athetes develop pain in from jumping, running, and lifting. Bodybuilders use leg extensions extensively to build quad mass. I began doing leg extensions last year for my physique shows and this year, I’m training out of a gym that does not have typical bodybuilding equipment. Remember the chest press exercise we came up with?

Here’s an alternative for a leg extension machine and even more intense version of the TKE (terminal knee extension).

I like doing these for higher reps (20-30), just pumping them out, or for 10-15 reps with a 2 second quad flex at the top. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

NUTRITION
Bulletproof coffee. Ever heard of it? It’s kinda been one of the newest crazes in the past couple years. Some people swear by it and others think it’s nuts.  Now, I love coffee as much as the next person (Dunkin Donuts gift cards are welcome) so I’m not about to leave my morning cup of joe behind.

Precision Nutrition recently put out this article on Bulletproof coffee, laying out the goods, the bads and the possible uglies. Are MCT’s the holy grail for fat loss? Can BPC help your body composition?

Are you a BPC fan?  Let me know your experiences with it, good or bad.
