Week 18/52: PCOS, disordered eating and repairing metabolism

I just got back from a weekend retreat in the backwoods of Maine. It was absolutely incredible. A wonderful community of women who have found a home where training, nutrition, lifestyle, confidence and empowerment is taught in all the right ways. Luke Robinson, former WWE Tough Enough star has taken on the battle of getting his community healthy again.

This is the second year in a row that I’ve been invited to get a part of this event and what I come away with most is the stories from each woman. The struggles they have overcome to get off medication, to lose weight, to regain their confidence, to be a better wife, and to overcome the battle of too much dieting and too much exercise. These women are inspiring in their own way and I’m grateful to know them.

A young gal by the name of Stefani Ruper joined us for the weekend. She counsels women who are battling disordered eating, wrecked metabolism, low thyroid function, poor sex drive…all the things that come along with beating your body into the ground for the sake of “being skinny.”

Check out her blog, her book Sexy by Nature: The Whole Foods Solution to Radiant Health, Life-Long Sex Appeal, and Soaring Confidence and her story. Having battled much of these things herself, she decided to dive in head first to help women.

She’s a great resource if you or someone you know is battling metabolic or hormonal or thyroid issues. Be an educated consumer. Get with your doctor about reversing it through proper nutrition and not just through medicine.
